June 6, 2026
Today marks a milestone that is both humbling and deeply meaningful to me.
Eighteen years ago, on June 6th, 2008, I published the first article on what was then called OracleANZ.com. At the time, I simply wanted a platform to share practical Oracle knowledge, lessons learned from customer projects, and best practices with the broader community.
What I could not have imagined was that this journey would continue for nearly two decades, spanning multiple generations of Oracle technology, cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and a global community of professionals who share the same passion for databases, high availability, and continuous learning.
Today, OracleANZ.com has evolved into OracleMAA.com, but its mission remains exactly the same:
Helping database professionals design, deploy, and operate resilient, high-performing, and highly available Oracle environments.
The Journey Started Before 2008
Many readers may not know that OracleMAA.com was actually my second technical blog.
Back in 2005, I launched OracleEnEspanol.com, one of the earliest Oracle-focused technical communities dedicated to Spanish-speaking professionals across Latin America and Spain.
For three years, OracleEnEspanol.com became a popular destination for DBAs, developers, and architects looking for Oracle knowledge in their native language. The community grew rapidly and helped connect Oracle professionals throughout the Spanish-speaking world.
In 2008, several important things happened:
- I became an Oracle ACE
- My international speaking engagements increased significantly
- I started contributing more heavily to the global Oracle community
- I launched OracleANZ.com to publish content in English for a worldwide audience
As my focus shifted toward global content creation, OracleEnEspanol.com gradually took a back seat while OracleANZ.com became my primary platform for sharing technical expertise.
From OracleANZ.com to OracleMAA.com
While OracleANZ.com served the community for many years, the blog’s content had evolved well beyond its original regional focus.
Over time, the site became increasingly centered around:
- Oracle Maximum Availability Architecture (MAA)
- Data Guard and Active Data Guard
- Oracle RAC
- Exadata
- Disaster Recovery
- Cloud Architecture
- Oracle Cloud Infrastructure
- Mission-critical database resilience
To better reflect this focus, in 2022 OracleANZ.com officially became OracleMAA.com.
The new name represented not only the technologies I am most passionate about but also the core mission of helping organizations achieve maximum availability, resilience, and operational excellence.

An Anniversary Gift: Exclusive Preview of CrashSimulator v2
What better way to celebrate an 18th anniversary than by sharing something exciting with the community?
Today, I am delighted to provide an exclusive early preview of CrashSimulator v2.
CrashSimulator was originally created to help Oracle professionals better understand failure scenarios, recovery processes, and Maximum Availability Architecture concepts through practical demonstrations and repeatable testing.
Version 2 represents a major evolution of that vision. Becoming an Oracle Resilience Validation and Readiness Platform that continuously measures recoverability, MAA alignment, backup readiness, disaster recovery preparedness, and operational recovery capability through topology-aware simulation and validation.
What’s New in CrashSimulator v2
- Completely redesigned user experience
- Modern CLI and Guided interface
- Enhanced scenario orchestration
- Expanded failure simulation capabilities
- Improved visualization and reporting
- Simplified lab deployment
- OCI integration enhancements
- Faster execution workflows
- New MAA validation scenarios
- Better support for training and demonstrations
First Look: CrashSimulator v2

A Personal Reflection
Over these 18 years, Oracle technology has changed dramatically.
We have moved from traditional data centers to cloud platforms.
From manually managed infrastructure to autonomous services.
From relational-only workloads to AI-powered applications.
Yet one thing has remained constant:
The importance of community.
Everything I have achieved professionally—from Oracle ACE recognition, global speaking engagements, publishing, customer success stories, and even lifelong friendships—has been made possible by the incredible Oracle community.
For that, I will always be grateful.
Looking Toward the Future
As we enter the era of Artificial Intelligence, Autonomous Operations, and increasingly mission-critical digital services, the need for resilience, availability, and operational excellence has never been greater.
OracleMAA.com will continue to evolve alongside these technologies while staying true to its original purpose:
Sharing knowledge. Promoting best practices. Helping professionals succeed. Giving back to the community.
Thank you for being part of this journey.
Thank you for helping make these first 18 years unforgettable.
And thank you for joining me as we begin the next chapter.
Happy Anniversary, OracleMAA.com.
